Credit Insurance – Domestic Cover
Credit Insurance provides protection against the failure of a customer to pay
its trade credit debts. The main cause of this in the domestic market is a customer
becoming insolvent. This is a normal commercial risk and it makes sense to guard against it, however credit insurance can provide more than just replacement of cash:

• By allowing a reduction in the level of provisions for bad debts,
   this maximises the availability of working capital.
• Advice on credit limits, usually provided via an on-line service, forms part of a risk prevention
   programme for existing customers, and enables the identification and targeting of new customers.
• A credit insurance policy can be used to provide security to a lender for trade finance.
• Standard cover is for goods or services sold and delivered, but can be extended to cover
   other risks such as work in progress.
• As an additional service to the above, collections services (including legal action) to recover
   insured debts are available.
